Jenny Gillespie Mason has announced her forthcoming album In the Safety of the Light, set for release on 12th June via Native Cat Recordings. Alongside the announcement, Mason has unveiled the album’s first single, “Rungs of Love,” a deeply reflective folk track inspired by spiritual devotion and human connection.
Produced by acclaimed producer Noah Georgeson, known for his work with Joanna Newsom and Devendra Banhart, the album marks Mason’s heartfelt return to the acoustic folk sound that first inspired her as a teenager. Recorded live as an ensemble in Los Angeles during 2024, the project blends warm acoustic arrangements with atmospheric textures and intimate songwriting.
Mason explains that “Rungs of Love” was inspired by the teachings of Mother Mirra Alfassa, exploring different stages of love — from selfish desire to unconditional and divine love. Throughout the album, Mason reflects on balancing spiritual practice with everyday life as a mother and wife.
Drawing influence from 1970s British folk and ambient music, In the Safety of the Light promises a deeply personal and spiritually rich listening experience filled with honesty, warmth, and emotional depth.
