Night Teacher returns with “St. Augustine,” a brooding and sultry new single produced by and featuring Allen Tate of San Fermin. The song explores the complicated nature of love, bringing together songwriter Lilly Bechtel’s delicate vocals and Tate’s deep, moody baritone to create an introspective musical experience.
According to Bechtel, “St. Augustine” examines the different forms of love and the challenge of caring deeply without becoming too attached. The song reflects on the importance of letting go of expectations and allowing relationships to change naturally. Its message highlights a difficult truth: sometimes, loving someone means having the courage to let them go.
The release follows Night Teacher’s sophomore album, Year of the Snake, which arrived through First City Artists. Produced by Matt Wyatt, known for his work with Lowland Hum and David Wax Museum, the album features a gritty, energetic, and unconventional sound that attracted attention from several music publications, including NPR and Stereogum.
Night Teacher also recently completed a summer residency at Francis Kite Club in New York’s East Village.
With “St. Augustine,” Night Teacher delivers a thoughtful exploration of love, vulnerability, and the courage required to let go.
