Shady Brook, the musical partnership of Rick Dunham and Karl Moet, returns with their 17th song, “Things To Know About Life” (Ryder’s Song), a heartfelt track inspired by the arrival of a new generation.
The song was born after Karl learned that his son and daughter-in-law were finally expecting a child following years of being told that having a baby might not be possible. While sitting in the studio processing the emotional news, Karl imagined a conversation with his youngest child about life, the challenges ahead, and the lessons that come with growing up. From that emotional moment, the song quickly came together.
Rick Dunham wrote the lyrics, while Karl created the rhythm track using drums, bass, and piano. Rick’s warm vocal performance is joined by John Udinsky on steel and nylon guitars, Moxy Anne on background vocals, and Eric Denton on mandolin, giving the track a rich and organic feel.
Known for songs inspired by life experiences and social issues, Shady Brook continues to build a thoughtful catalog. With three new songs planned for early 2027, the duo’s musical journey is set to continue.
