Independent Alt Country/Americana artist Gretta Ziller returns with her new single, “Breaking Up Ain’t Like the Movies,” a heartfelt song that takes an honest look at the reality of heartbreak and moving on. Following “Gravel” and “Sugar in Your Coffee,” the release continues Ziller’s impressive Long & Writing Road songwriting project, during which she co-wrote 52 songs in 52 weeks with collaborators across Australia and the United States.
Recorded with producer Damian Cafarella at Ziggy Tone Studios, the track combines a slow-burning rock feel with banjo, classic country hooks, and Americana grit. Ziller’s powerful vocals remain at the heart of the song, delivering its message with emotional honesty.
Written with Nashville songwriters Phil Barton and Kylie Sackley, the song challenges the polished version of heartbreak often portrayed in movies. Instead, Ziller explores the quieter, messier process of accepting a breakup and finding the strength to move forward.
