At 84, singer-songwriter Papa Bruce continues to prove that it is never too late to bring a creative dream to life. His third studio album, Don’t Do That, is a 12-track collection that brings songs written more than three decades ago into the present.
Between 1991 and 1996, Papa Bruce wrote 26 songs during a challenging period of his life, recording lyrics on scraps of paper and keeping the melodies in his head. The songs were eventually stored away in a briefcase for almost 30 years.
That changed when his daughter, Marissa Sasak, began learning guitar. Watching her play and perform reminded Papa Bruce of the music he had once created. He revisited the songs, recovering 11 original melodies and creating new ones for the remaining material.
Released in 2026, Don’t Do That features two songs with Marissa, as well as a co-written title track with Tiffany Carvalho. The album follows his first two releases, It’s Not Too Late and Walk With Me, both released in 2025.
Papa Bruce’s journey is a reminder that creativity has no expiration date.
