What happens when four longtime friends, a few instruments, and a love for music come together? The answer is “Midnight Blues Jam,” a completely improvised blues track from Four of a Kind that captures the spontaneous energy of their weekly jam sessions.
The group brings together Jim Giblin, a retired U.S. Navy officer and the newest member, Paul Burnette, a retired IT specialist, mortgage loan broker Marc Morrison, and drummer Dick Cole, a retired U.S. Air Force officer and civil servant. For nearly six years, the musicians have gathered on Friday evenings for friendship, music, and their favorite cover songs.
Their sessions usually begin with an improvised blues or jazz performance before moving into covers. Recognizing the quality and spontaneity of these opening jams, Cole suggested recording them. “Midnight Blues Jam” became their first officially recorded, produced, and mastered improvisation.
Featuring keyboards, guitar, bass, and drums, the track showcases the musicians’ individual talents while maintaining a natural, live-jam feel. Although AI tools assisted with mixing and mastering, the music itself was created entirely by the musicians.
With more jams planned for release, Four of a Kind is proving that great music can emerge naturally from friendship and creativity.
