Italian composer Gianfranco Malorgio presents “An Immigrant’s Story,” an emotional instrumental composition inspired by the struggles, sacrifices, and journeys of people forced to leave their homeland in search of a better life. Created with a potential film adaptation in mind, the piece pays tribute to Italian emigration and the millions who have carried their heritage across the world.
Between 1861 and today, more than 30 million Italians have left their homeland, contributing to a worldwide population of approximately 60 to 80 million people of Italian descent. Malorgio’s composition draws inspiration from this remarkable history, offering a musical reflection on migration, hardship, and the human experience of starting over.
Malorgio performs the synth and composition, while guitarist Moreno Viglione contributes guitar. Viglione also handles production, mixing, and mastering, bringing the musical elements together into a cohesive sound.
With experience in classical guitar, Gypsy jazz, and film soundtracks, Malorgio continues expanding his work as a composer for synchronization. Through Papilio Records, the independent label he founded in 2024, he creates music suited for films, documentaries, and soundtracks. “An Immigrant’s Story” stands as a meaningful example of music connecting history with emotion.
