Serbian country rock band Backsprint is giving Van Morrison’s timeless hit Have I Told You Lately a fresh interpretation with a stripped-down cover released on June 12, 2026. Featuring guest guitarist Aleksandar Petrović, the single replaces the lush orchestration of the 1989 original with a simple arrangement built around two guitars, bass, drums, and vocals.
Rather than relying on strings, keyboards, or studio enhancements, Backsprint embraces a live, organic recording approach. The track was recorded using multiple takes without overdubs, pitch correction, or a click track, preserving the authentic sound of the band performing together in the studio. Produced by Oliver Jovanović, the recording reflects the group’s commitment to capturing genuine musicianship.
Lead singer and songwriter Uroš Jojić said the band wanted to discover what remained of the classic song after removing its elaborate production, ultimately creating a version that felt true to their country rock roots.
The release is part of Backsprint’s ongoing series of singles leading to a full-length album. The band is also set to open for American bassist Nik West at Belgrade’s Bitef Art Café on September 24 as part of its 2026 album campaign.
