True-story Americana storytelling meets timeless musicianship in a powerful new release inspired by real-life events.
Americana quartet The Bluebillies return this fall with their evocative new single “Run Daddy Run (Mama’s Got a Gun)”, releasing on all streaming platforms, with a limited-edition vinyl pressing coming in December 2025.
Drawn from Melody Guarino’s own childhood experience, “Run Daddy Run” paints a stark yet deeply human portrait of family breakdown and resilience. It’s a story of love turning to survival — and the moment a mother, pushed too far, loses her sense of self and goes outlaw.
“This song came from a real place — from the moment when love turns to survival, and awoman loses her sense of self in the chaos,” says Melody Guarino. “We wanted to honor that story honestly, the way old country songs used to do — not to sensationalize it, but to understand it.”
Produced by The Bluebillies and engineered by Justin Metz at RockwellPro Studio, the track balances emotional storytelling with the group’s trademark harmony-driven sound — a seamless blend of country, bluegrass, and folk steeped in authenticity and heart.
“Run Daddy Run (Mama’s Got a Gun)” was written by Mark Guarino and Melody Guarino and self-released by the band.
The Bluebillies perform a unique blend of country, bluegrass, and folk music with traditional style, sound, and spirit. Husband-and-wife team Mark and Melody Guarino have been singing together since 1984, devoted to preserving the rich heritage of American roots music.
Joined by Tucker Callander on fiddle and Greg Bucking on guitar, The Bluebillies bring to life the warmth and chemistry of a true “family” band. Together, they produce a traveling series of Old-Time Gospel Music Revues, host seasonal gospel open mics, and have released three acclaimed albums: Train to Paradise (2013), Gal From Ioway (2014), and Adirondack Angels (2016). Their forthcoming EP, Bluebillies in Paradise, is due out March 2026.
