Swedish pianist and composer Mats Skimmelå is quickly making a name for himself in the international jazz scene. In September last year, he began releasing his original jazz music to a global audience, and the response has been remarkable. His music has already been played on more than 20–25 jazz radio stations around the world, including Meltopia Radio, Radio Free Marseille, Montreal Radio Cité, RFZ Radio, and Radio‑TV Arkhis Brussels.
On Spotify, Skimmelå’s four released tracks have already collected more than 44,000 streams, showing growing interest in his elegant jazz style. His Bossa Nova-inspired piece “Something” has attracted the most attention from listeners and critics alike.
A glowing review came from Mel Golding of Meltopia Radio in the UK, who praised the track for its captivating melody, refined rhythm, and expressive piano performance. The song blends gentle percussion, acoustic guitar, mellow bass, and a saxophone-led melody, creating a warm and sophisticated atmosphere.
Recently, Skimmelå also received recognition from Bridgett Lewis, founder of the CoffeeTalk Jazz Network in Los Angeles. She emphasized that increased media, radio, and blog exposure could help bring his music to an even wider global audience.
