Some stories take a lifetime to tell, and for 83-year-old first-time recording artist Papa Bruce, the time has finally come to share his. On the brink of his debut double album release in 2025, Papa Bruce has unveiled The Old Man, a jazzy, cheeky reimagining of Santa Claus that will leave listeners laughing, toe-tapping, and longing for more.

The journey to The Old Man began over 30 years ago during a tumultuous period in Papa Bruce’s life. From 1991 to 1996, he poured his emotions into writing 26 songs, penning lyrics on scraps of paper while storing melodies in his memory. The songs captured the full spectrum of his experiences—heartbreak, grief, joy, and everything in between. For nearly three decades, these songs sat tucked away in a briefcase, almost forgotten.

It wasn’t until Papa Bruce’s daughter Marissa picked up the guitar that the music resurfaced. Watching her play reignited his creative spark, and with family encouragement, Papa Bruce not only revisited his lyrics but composed new melodies to complete his catalog. The result is two full length albums recorded in one year at the renowned ModernT one Studios, where he discovered a newfound love for the recording process.

The Old Man, the first single from this remarkable project, offers a playful twist on holiday storytelling, imagining Santa in a hilariously unexpected situation. With witty lyrics, a jazzy groove, and Papa Bruce’s charming delivery, the song captures the humor and warmth that make his music so memorable.

“This has been the most fulfilling chapter of my life, ” says Papa Bruce. “T o finally bring these songs to life and share them is a dream I never thought I’d have the chance to live.”

Papa Bruce’s story proves it’s never too late to chase your dreams. With a debut single that promises to stand out this holiday season, The Old Man is only the beginning of a journey that’s been decades in the making.
