Country/Americana artist Mike Kuster is serving up humor, heart, and hometown pride with the release of his brand-new single, “Corn Fed. ” Inspired by a real-life family moment, the song is a lighthearted celebration of rural life, strong roots, and the kind of stories that stick with you for decades.
“Corn Fed” traces back to Kuster’s childhood, when his parents made the decision to buy a farm and relocate the family to Frederick County, Maryland—a move that felt, to his younger self, like crossing into an entirely different world. As the family drove out of the suburbs and into farm country, Kuster’s father delivered a line that would become legendary in their household: “Boy, you’re gonna love growing up here in the country — these girls are corn fed. ”
At the time, Kuster didn’t quite understand what that meant—but he never forgot it. Years later, while retelling the story to his wife and one of his sons, inspiration struck. His wife jokingly suggested he write a song called “Corn Fed, ” quickly adding that it might be a terrible idea. Naturally, Kuster took that as a challenge.
The result is a song that walks the line between humor and heartfelt respect. Rather than leaning into caricature, “Corn Fed” honors the people and place that shaped him—celebrating women and men who are strong, hardworking, love deeply, and aren’t afraid of a little dirt under their boots.
“‘Corn Fed’ is my tip of the hat to country life, family roots, and my dad’s offhand comment that somehow turned into a song years later, ” says Kuster.
“It’s meant to make people smile, laugh, and maybe think about where they came from. ”
Known for blending authentic storytelling with classic country sensibilities, Mike Kuster continues to showcase his knack for turning everyday moments into songs that feel both personal and universal. With “Corn Fed, ” he delivers a feel-good anthem that celebrates heritage, humor, and the enduring power of family stories.
