London-based singer-songwriter John Arter returns to his solo roots with “That Other Time,” a stark and emotionally resonant single from his forthcoming debut LP, SMALL WONDER. Built on sparse acoustic foundations, the track is enriched by subtle layers of French horns and violin, creating a wintry, atmospheric soundscape that feels both intimate and expansive.
At its core, the song is a quiet meditation on aging, memory, and identity. Through vivid, reflective imagery, Arter captures the disorienting experience of revisiting familiar places as a changed person. The poignant refrain—searching for the “old light” once carried—anchors the track in a universal longing to reconnect with a former self.
“That Other Time” also carries a heartfelt dedication to Rob Edwards, a fan who passed away in 2025, adding a gentle emotional undercurrent that lingers throughout the song.
Rather than rushing his debut album, Arter plans to release SMALL WONDER gradually across 2026, unveiling one track each month. Known for his work with his band, he now offers a more stripped-back and contemplative perspective—inviting listeners to slow down, reflect, and fully inhabit each song as it arrives.
