Danish-Scottish singer-songwriter Ida is stepping out from her bedroom to bring a heartfelt touch of Christmas to listeners with her new single “Joy.” After years of teetering on the edge of starting a YouTube channel, Ida’s musical journey took a decisive turn in 2024 when she met veteran Celtic guitarist Vid Weeks at a café on Tottenham Court Road. Their immediate creative spark led to co-writing sessions that quickly blossomed into her debut album, Like Me, released in August 2025.
Influenced by indie and folk luminaries like Nina Nesbitt, Gabrielle Aplin, and Cordelia Gartside, Ida is known for songs reflecting personal growth, friendships, and formative experiences. Yet “Joy” marks a departure—shifting focus from introspection to the wider world. Inspired by a chance encounter with St Patrick’s Church in London, where Vid misread a Latin quote above the entrance, the duo crafted a song celebrating hope, community, and the festive spirit, including the church’s work with the homeless.
Though shy about performing live, Ida has been honing her craft at open mic nights like the Green Note in Campden, slowly embracing the stage. Her next album, Yours Sincerely, will release in 2026, with track six, “Ranklin Inlet,” arriving January 8. With “Joy,” Ida reminds listeners that even in a commercialized world, Christmas can still shine bright.
