Adrian Johnson, a Denver-based producer and multi-instrumentalist, is the creative force behind Echo Vocation, his latest solo music project. By merging organic guitar lines with extensive modular synth explorations, he crafts a unique sound that spans downtempo, fusion, ambient, synthwave, and Berlin School electronica. Utilizing traditional instruments such as guitar, bass, violin, guzheng, and kalimba alongside experimental modular synth patches, Adrian creates evolving soundscapes that cater to both background and active listening.

The instrumental track “Replicant’s Dilemma” is the lead single from his upcoming synthwave EP, set for release on December 6, 2024. This track has evolved over three months of live performances at various events, including a modular synth meetup and an art gallery show. The live version was released on August 19, 2024, and is available on major streaming platforms, with a performance video also on YouTube.

Adrian’s journey into modular synths began after he faced challenges with dexterity due to mixed connective tissue disease following COVID-19. Once he regained the ability to play, he experimented with new techniques for looping and sound manipulation using hexaphonic and MIDI guitars. His music draws inspiration from a diverse array of artists like Massive Attack and Tangerine Dream, resulting in a rich tonal palette that reflects his varied influences.
