“Drive and Crash,” Marking the Next Chapter for Sunset Park

35

What began as a routine six-week trip to Tokyo in January 2020 turned into a transformative journey for musician and producer Eiki, who unexpectedly found himself grounded in Japan due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Eiki channeled this unexpected pause into creative momentum—planting the seeds for what would become a bold new musical project: the next chapter of Sunset Park.

During his extended time in Tokyo, Eiki began composing a fresh body of work. By 2021, he was performing live with local musicians, road-testing the new material on stage.

Recording officially began in the autumn of 2022. To bring the vision to life, Eiki reunited with longtime collaborators Andy and Kenny, both of whom had previously worked with him in New York. Their shared musical history brought depth, energy, and cohesion to the evolving sound of Sunset Park.

In early 2025, the project took an exciting turn with the addition of guitarist Alex, whose expressive and technically precise playing added a new layer of intensity to the band. Eiki reached out to Alex specifically for Sunset Park’s new single, sensing his style was the perfect fit—and the collaboration clicked instantly. The result is the newly released single, “Drive and Crash,”

“This song is really a journey—from isolation to reconnection,” said Eiki. “It’s been five years in the making, born from a strange moment in history, and I’m proud of what we’ve created together.”

With a sound that blends intricate arrangements, international influences, and a strong collaborative spirit, Sunset Park is gearing up to release their second full- length album soon.
