Cardiff-born singer-songwriter Daddy Drwg (aka Richard Proctor) returns this summer with “Wise Guys”, a bold, swaggering new single; a searing satire of the male ego. the track marks the first new release since his critically acclaimed 2024 debut solo album A Tree Called Happy.
With its whistled hook, stomping rhythm, and razor-edged lyrics, “Wise Guys” takes aim at the bravado, entitlement, and emotional illiteracy that often pass for masculinity in the modern world. The track mocks the delusion of male genius, exposing the fools behind the facade. It’s a song that grins while it bites; catchy, darkly humorous and full of social commentary.
Wise guys spend too much / Wise guys are out of touch / Wise guys have all the luck / Wise guys don’t give a…”
The track also features a poignant bridge: “Slow, slow down the days / I know you feel the sunlight fading” – a lyrical nod to fellow Welshman Dylan Thomas’ Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night, anchoring the song’s rage and ridicule in something more human: the fear of fading relevance and inevitable mortality.
The man behind the music, Richard Proctor, is no stranger to evolution. Having fronted bands like Scream, Quicksand Charlie, They Walk Among Us, and The MeMeMes (with Mel Daley), he re-emerged in 2024 as Daddy Drwg, a name affectionately given to him by his daughters (“Drwg” is Welsh for “Naughty”, pronounced Droog). His debut solo album was met with widespread praise.
