Song & Salt Explore Naval Experiences in Atmospheric Single “Green Flash”

San Diego independent music outfit Song & Salt has released its atmospheric new single, Green Flash, through Osprey Recording. Released October 16, 2026, the track offers a deeply personal reflection on military deployment, maritime experiences, and the psychological weight of constant vigilance.

Written and produced by Navy veteran Kevin Mankins, Green Flash explores the contrast between peaceful coastal imagery and the intense realities of naval transit through the Strait of Hormuz. Inspired by encounters with dolphins, manta rays, and volatile maritime situations, the song captures the tension between extraordinary natural beauty and the demands of military readiness.

The track features Ed “Pa Fletch” Fletcher on drums, whose steady rhythms reflect the physical heartbeat of a ship underway, alongside Andy Casile’s expressive guitar arrangements. Together, they create a haunting musical atmosphere blending tension, spacious melodies, and atmospheric soundscapes.

Drawing inspiration from the elusive green flash associated with ocean sunsets, the song reflects on the beauty that remains just beyond reach during demanding military experiences.

With Green Flash, Song & Salt delivers a compelling combination of dark coastal Americana, art-rock, and authentic storytelling, bringing listeners into an unforgettable maritime journey.
